Interior Applauds Federal Aviation Administration for Support to Airports in U.S. Territories and the Freely Associated States

The FAA has announced $54,859,950 in fiscal year 2020 funding under the Airport Improvement Program to bolster airport safety, security, and infrastructure at airports in the U.S. territories and the freely associated states. This announcement regarding AIP funding is in addition to $85 million provided by the FAA in CARES Act funding and nearly $9 million provided by the Federal Transit Administration in 2020 to the insular areas.

OIA Commends Study to Consider Sites on Rota in CNMI for Possible Inclusion in U.S. National Park Service System

NPS has announced preliminary findings of a study indicating that Rota, CNMI is a special place with significant cultural and natural resources deemed nationally significant and suitable for potential inclusion in the National Park System. Beginning September 14, NPS will engage with the community on several preliminary alternative concepts for the future

Trump Administration Announces Release of $338 Million to Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands in Rum and Section 30 Tax Payments for FY 2021

Today, DOI released $272,950,000 to the USVI in rum tax cover-over payments for estimated FY 2021 rum tax collections and $65,109,936 to Guam for federal income tax advance payments under Section 30 of the Organic Act of Guam.

The Joint Economic Management and Financial Accountability Committee (JEMFAC) of the United States and the Republic of the Marshall Islands has concurred to allocations totaling $34,159,131 in Compact of Free Association financial assistance for fiscal year 2021.

The Trump Administration announced $70,198 in fiscal year 2020 grant funding provided through the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs’ (OIA) Technical Assistance Program (TAP) to support an East-West Center initiative to highlight the Pacific Islands and the relationship between the Pacific Islands and the United States.
