Federal public waters of the Kuskokwim River will be opened for 12 Hours on June 1 to the Harvest of Chinook Salmon with 6-inch set gillnets by Federally Qualified Subsistence Users

In consultation with the Kuskokwim River Inter-Tribal Fish Commission and the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the Federal In-season Manager announces one 12-hour set gillnet opportunities for Federally qualified subsistence users identified in the Section 804 subsistence user prioritization analysis, which includes residents of the Kuskokwim River drainage and the villages of Chefornak, Kipnuk, Kwigillingok, and Kongiganak, to harvest Chinook Salmon on Federal public waters of the Kuskokwim River main stem, except for the waters of the Kuskokwim River mainstem referred to as the Aniak Box (see 3-KS-03-19) on June 1, 2019.  The start time and end time for this opportunity is from 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

Kuskokwim River Mainstem and Salmon Tributaries in Federal Public Waters Closed to Chinook Salmon harvest with Gillnets by Federally Qualified Users Beginning June 1, 2019

The Federal Subsistence Board (Board) closed the Federal public waters of the Kuskokwim River to the harvest of Chinook Salmon by non-Federally qualified subsistence users, and limited the pool of Federally qualified subsistence users eligible to harvest Chinook Salmon, via Temporary Special Action FSA19-03 issued during the Board meeting on April 15 – 18, 2019.

Comments Invited on Proposed Changes to Federal Subsistence Hunting and Trapping Regulations for the 2020-2022 Regulatory Years

The Federal Subsistence Board (Board) is accepting written comments through June 28, 2019 on proposed changes to Federal subsistence hunting and trapping regulations. These proposed changes would affect Federal subsistence seasons, harvest limits, and methods and means for the taking of wildlife, and customary and traditional use determinations for the regulatory years July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2022.

Situk River Federal subsistence Chinook Salmon fishery closed

YAKUTAT, Alaska – Yakutat District Ranger Lee Benson, under authority delegated by the Federal Subsistence Board, has announced that the Situk River will be closed to the harvest of Chinook Salmon from 12:01 a.m. Saturday, June 1, 2019 through 11:59 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, 2019 due to forecasted low returns.

Federal Subsistence Board approves changes to subsistence fishing regulations

The Federal Subsistence Board (Board) met April 15-18, 2019 in Anchorage to consider 18 proposed changes to the Federal subsistence fisheries regulations, one nonrural proposal threshold assessment, a request for reconsideration (RFR) of a past wildlife proposal, and two fisheries temporary special action requests. The Board heard status updates on RFR15-01 (Kenai River Community Gillnet) and RFR18-01 (Unit 2 Deer), updates on the Partners Program for Fisheries Monitoring, the Alaska Native Science and Engineering Program internships, and the Eastern Interior Alaska Hunter Education Pilot Program. The Board also conducted Tribal and Alaska Native Corporation consultations.
