Amendment of Chitina Subdistrict Federal Subsistence Fishing Schedule Announced

Copper Center, AK. The pre-season fishing schedule for Federally qualified subsistence users in the Chitina Subdistrict of the Copper River was amended today by the Federal Subsistence Board. This pre-season schedule is identical to the State pre-season schedule and is subject to change based on numbers of salmon entering the Copper River.

This fishery is open during the periods listed above to Federally qualified subsistence users having customary and traditional use of salmon in this Subdistrict. Amendments to this schedule and additional periods will be announced as the season progresses. As a reminder, the harvest limit for Chinook Salmon taken by the combined gear types of dip net or rod and reel has been reduced to 2, through July 15.

A Federal permit is required to participate in the fisheries under Federal regulations. This permit may be obtained without charge from the National Park Service in Copper Center, Siana, Chitina, or McCarthy. The National Park Service office in Copper Center provides a recorded message phone with the most current fishing schedule. The recorded message is available 24-hours daily. The phone number is (907) 822-7256. Subsistence users are encouraged to call this number prior to fishing to determine if amendments have been made to previously announced fishing schedules.
