State and Federal Subsistence 2020 GMU 2 Wolf Harvest Season Closure Date Announced

CRAIG, Alaska – The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G), in cooperation with the U.S. Forest Service (USFS), announce that the fall 2020 State and Federal hunting and trapping seasons for wolf in Game Management Unit 2 (GMU 2) (referred to as Unit 2 in the Federal Subsistence Regulations) will close at 11:59 pm December 5, 2020.

Federal subsistence moose hunting season to close in a portion of Unit 5A

YAKUTAT, Alaska - Yakutat District Ranger Lee Benson, under authority delegated by the Federal Subsistence Board, is closing the 2020 Federal subsistence moose season for that portion of Unit 5A east of the Dangerous River, except the Nunatak Bench, effective Oct. 28, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) will implement a closure for the State season.

Federal deer season extended in Unit 3

PETERSBURG, Alaska – Petersburg District Ranger Ted Sandhofer, under authority delegated by the Federal Subsistence Board, is extending the Federal deer season in Unit 3 on Mitkof, Woewodski, Butterworth Islands and that portion of Kupreanof Island on the Lindenberg Peninsula east of Portage Bay - Duncan Canal Portage through 11:59 p.m., Nov. 7, 2020 with a harvest limit of 1 buck. The harvest limit is also revised from antlered deer to buck in the remainder of Unit 3.

BLM Announces Winter Fortymile Federal Subsistence Caribou Hunt Dates and Harvest Limit

FAIRBANKS, AK — The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Eastern Interior Field Office, under authority delegated by the Federal Subsistence Board, will open caribou hunting on federal public lands in Units 20E, 25C, and 20F East of the Dalton Highway and South of the Yukon River on October 27, 2020, to provide harvest opportunities for federal subsistence users.

FAIRBANKS, AK — Two new maps showing winter access points and legal off-highway vehicle (OHV) areas on federal public lands aim to help hunters be successful while preserving sensitive environmental areas near the Steese Highway during the upcoming State of Alaska Fortymile caribou hunt that begins Oct. 27.

YAKUTAT, Alaska - Yakutat District Ranger Lee Benson, under authority delegated by the Federal Subsistence Board, is closing the 2020 Federal subsistence moose season for that portion of Unit 5A west of the Dangerous River, except the Nunatak Bench, effective Oct. 12, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) will implement a concurrent closure for the State season.

2020 Yukon River Salmon Fall Fishery Announcement #31 Subdistrict 6-C Personal Use Fishing

Districts Affected: Upper Yukon AreaThis year’s fall chum salmon run fell below the threshold needed to allow personal use salmon fishing. The fall chum salmon run migration is essentially complete in Subdistrict 6-C. Personal use fishing for salmon and whitefish/suckers is being allowed in a reduced area of the Tanana River to provide fishing opportunity on other fish species while protecting fall chum salmon spawning locations.
