Federal Subsistence Board recommends submerged public lands within Tongass National Forest for inclusion in Subsistence Management Regulations

The Federal Subsistence Board (Board) decided in a May 25, 2017 teleconference, which was open to the public, to recommend to the Secretaries of the Departments of Interior and Agriculture that the lands listed in a proposed rule of June 8, 2016 (81 FR 36836) be included in the Subsistence Management Regulations for Public Lands in Alaska (36 CFR 242 and 50 CFR 100) for the purpose of implementing the subsistence provisions in Title VIII of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act.

The Federal Subsistence Board (Board) is accepting proposals through June 16, 2017 to change Federal regulations for the subsistence harvest of wildlife on Federal public lands for the 2018-2020 regulatory years (July 1, 2018-June 30, 2020).

Federal Subsistence Board Closes Stikine River Chinook Salmon Subsistence Fishery

The Federal Subsistence Board (Board) has approved Emergency Special Action Request FSA17-02, which requested closure of the Stikine River Chinook Salmon subsistence fishery, and delegation of authority to the In-season Manager to rescind the closure if an updated in-season abundance estimate is large enough to produce a U.S. Allowable Catch. 

Federal Subsistence Fishery for Eulachon Closed in Federal Waters within District 1

KETCHIKAN, Alaska – Ketchikan-Misty Fiords District Ranger Jeff DeFreest, under authority delegated by the Federal Subsistence Board, is closing the Federal public waters that flow into District 1 to the taking of eulachon from 12:01 a.m., Monday, March 6, 2017 until 11:59 p.m., May 4, 2017 due to anticipated low eulachon returns. 

North Slope Subsistence Regional Advisory Council to Meet in Utqiagvik

Southeast Alaska Subsistence Regional Advisory Council to Meet in Craig

The Southeast Alaska Subsistence Regional Advisory Council will meet March 14-16, 2017 in Craig, at the Craig Tribal Association Hall. The meeting will begin at 1:00 p.m. on March 14th and at 9:00 a.m. on March 15-16th. 

Seward Peninsula Subsistence Regional Advisory Council to Meet in Nome

The Seward Peninsula Subsistence Regional Advisory Council will meet March 6-7, 2017 at the Mini Convention Center in Nome. The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. on March 6th and at 9:00 a.m. on March 7th.

Northwest Arctic Subsistence Regional Advisory Council to Meet in Kotzebue
