Southcentral Alaska Subsistence Regional Advisory Council to hold teleconference on Fisheries Special Action Request FSA18-02

The Southcentral Alaska Subsistence Regional Advisory Council will hold a teleconference onApril 17, 2018, to develop a recommendation to the Federal Subsistence Board (Board) on Fisheries temporary special action request FSA18-02. Submitted jointly by the Ninilchik Traditional Council and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, FSA18-02 requests several modifications to Federal subsistence regulations to allow for implementation of the Kenai River community gillnet fishery for residents of Ninilchik during 2018, including establishing seasons, harvest limits and guidelines about fish retention and release.

Call for proposals to change Federal subsistence fish and shellfish regulations

The Federal Subsistence Board is accepting proposals through April 23, 2018 to change Federal regulations for the subsistence harvest of fish and shellfish on Federal public lands for the 2019-2021 regulatory years (April 1, 2019 - March 31, 2021). During this timeframe, the Board will also accept proposals on customary and traditional use and nonrural determinations.

Public Hearing announced for Fisheries Special Action Request FSA18-02 regarding changes to the Kenai River community gillnet fishery regulations

A public hearing is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., March 16, 2018, at the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center in Soldotna to receive public testimony about a Fisheries Temporary Special Action request received by the Federal Subsistence Board.  Fisheries Special Action FSA18-02, submitted jointly by the Ninilchik Traditional Council and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, requests several modifications to Federal subsistence regulations to allow for implementation of the Kenai River community gillnet fishery for residents of Ninilchik during 2018, including establishing seasons, harvest limits and guidelines about fish retention and release.
