For Immediate Release: February 10, 2023 The deadline for submission of applications to fill seats on the 10 Subsistence Regional Advisory Councils has been extended. Applications must be received via email or fax by close of business on Friday, March 7, 2023, or be postmarked by that date. The extension will provide additional time for prospective applicants to submit their applications.

For Immediate Release: February 3, 2023 Previous announcement stated an incorrect meeting place for the Eastern Interior Alaska and Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta Subsistence Regional Advisory Council. For Immediate Release: February 7, 2023   The Federal Subsistence Board (Board) met January 31 to February 3, 2023, at the Egan Center in Anchorage, to consider proposed changes to Federal subsistence fish and shellfish regulations and fishery closure reviews.  In addition, the Board acted on deferred Wildlife Proposals WP22-40, WP22-07, WP22-08, and WP22-10, a threshold analysis for RFR22-01, a Nonrural Determination Proposal threshold assessment, and other items.

For Immediate Release: January 27, 2023 Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, with the concurrence of Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, has made appointments to the 10 Federal Subsistence Regional Advisory Councils. The Councils advise the Federal Subsistence Board on subsistence management regulations and policies and serve as a forum for public involvement in Federal subsistence management in Alaska. With these appointments (shown in bold), the current membership of the Councils are:

On January 11, 2023, the Federal Subsistence Board (Board) published a notice in the Federal Register of the 2023 public meetings for the Federal Subsistence Regional Advisory Councils (Councils). The ten Councils will meet in person throughout Alaska between February 22, 2023, and April 6, 2023, to discuss and propose changes on the take of wildlife regulations on Federal public lands.

For Immediate Release: January 9, 2023     The Federal Subsistence Board (Board) will meet January 31−February 3, 2023, at the Egan Center in Anchorage, Alaska, to consider proposed changes to Federal subsistence fish and shellfish regulations for the 2023-2025 regulatory years. The Board will also discuss the Hunter Ethics Education and Outreach Initiative, Secretarial regulations proposing the inclusion of identified submerged lands in the Tongass National Forest, deferred wildlife proposals WP22-07, WP22-08, WP22-10 and WP22-40, the threshold analysis for RFR22-01 requesting reconsideration of fisheries proposal FP21-10, the threshold assessment for non-rural determination proposal NDP25-01, and other subsistence issues.

For Immediate Release: December 27, 2022 Under the authority of: 36 CFR §242.10 and .19 50 CFR §100.10 and .19 SITKA, Alaska – Sitka District Ranger Eric Garner, under authority delegated by the Federal Subsistence Board, is closing the Hogan Lake zone to the harvest of mountain goats. The closure will be effective Wednesday, December 28, 2022, at 11:59 p.m. and will remain in effect through the rest of the 2022 season, which ends December 31.

For Immediate Release: December 19, 2022 The Office of Subsistence Management is accepting proposals for funding via the 2024 Fisheries Resource Monitoring Program. Proposals must be technically sound and scientifically accurate with a focus on gathering biological, harvesting, and cultural data to be used in the management and conservation of subsistence fishery resources on Federal public lands and waters in Alaska (National Wildlife Refuges, National Forests, National Parks and Preserves, National Conservation Areas, National Wild and Scenic River Systems, National Petroleum Reserves, and National Recreation Areas).
