As part of the U.S. Department of the Interior’s nationwide tour to highlight the progress that has been made in the last eight years to restore the nation-to-nation relationship with Native Americans and Alaska Natives, Deputy Secretary of the Interior Michael L. Connor joined leaders of the Navajo Nation today to announce that sales from the Land Buy-Back Program for Tribal Nations (Buy-Back Program) have exceeded $1 billion.

Interior Agreements with Tribes to Implement Land Buy-Back Program Now Total 40 (www.doi.gov)

U.S. Deputy Secretary of the Interior Michael L. Connor today announced that the Department has signed agreements with three additional Tribes – the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes in Oklahoma, the Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Mohican Indians in Wisconsin, and the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation in California – to guide implementation of the Land Buy-Back Program for Tribal Nations (Buy-Back Program).

Fulfilling Interior Secretary Sally Jewell’s commitment during a visit to the Blackfeet Nation in May 2016, Deputy Secretary Michael L. Connor today announced that more than $270 million in purchase offers have been generated for nearly 7,000 landowners with fractional interests at the Blackfeet Indian Reservation in Montana as part of the Land Buy-Back Program for Tribal Nations (Buy-Back Program).
