Today the Biden-Harris administration outlined a vision for how the United States can work collaboratively to conserve and restore the lands, waters, and wildlife that support and sustain the nation. The recommendations are contained in a report released today, outlining a locally led and voluntary nationwide conservation goal to conserve 30 percent of U.S. lands and waters by 2030.

Today, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced a proposed rule to revoke the January 7, 2021, final regulation that limited the scope of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA). Significant concerns about the interpretation of the MBTA have been raised by the public, legal challenges in court and from the international treaty partners.

Today, the Interior Department announced that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has given final approval to a new solar energy project on public lands in California. The Crimson Solar Project represents an investment of roughly $550 million and has the potential to deliver enough power to energize approximately 87,500 homes.

Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland today announced the approval of $927,000 for the Tribal Youth Coastal Restoration Program, which will fund projects estimated to restore up to 1,000 acres of wildlife habitat on Tribal lands along the Gulf Coast. The program will fund hands-on opportunities for Tribal youth, including environmental projects and career training, to enhance community resilience, protect natural resources and the environment, and teach cultural values.

The Department of the Interior today took several steps to honor our nation-to-nation relationship with Tribes and uphold our trust and treaty responsibilities to them. Today’s actions reverse a series of steps taken in the previous administration that undermined the ability of Tribes to establish and consolidate their homelands.

Today, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland and Domestic Policy Advisor Susan Rice convened the first meeting of the White House Council on Native American Affairs in the Biden-Harris Administration. The Council will coordinate with Tribal Nations as it advances work on key issues such as climate change, Tribal homelands and treaties; economic development, energy and infrastructure; health; education; public safety and justice; and international Indigenous issues.

Today, Second Gentleman of the United States Douglas Emhoff and Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland announced 16 additions to the National Park Service’s National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program.

The White House today announced the intent to nominate Bryan Newland and Tracy Stone-Manning to serve at the Department of the Interior.

Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland announced today that she is moving forward to implement the Not Invisible Act, including establishing a Joint Commission led by the Departments of the Interior and Justice on reducing violent crime against American Indians and Alaska Natives.
