Natural Resources and Services

What Are Natural Resources?

Natural Resources means land, fish, wildlife, biota, air, water, ground water, drinking water supplies, and other such resources belonging to, managed by, held in trust by, appertaining to, or otherwise controlled by the U.S., any state or local government, any foreign government (under OPA only), any Indian Tribe, or, if the resources are subject to a trust restriction on alienation, any member of an Indian Tribe.

 What Are Natural Resource Services?

Services means the physical and biological functions performed by the resource including the human uses of those functions. These services are the result of the physical, chemical, or biological quality of the resource.

Natural resource services include services to other natural resources, such as providing food, shelter or nesting, as well as services directly benefiting humans and the human use of those services, such as fishing and other recreational activities.
