Secretary Jewell Supports Dignity & Respect Campaign

Transcript:

HI, EVERYBODY. I'M SALLY JEWELL, SECRETARY OF THE INTERIOR, AND IT'S GREAT TO BE WITH YOU TODAY, AT LEAST ON VIDEO IF NOT IN PERSON, FOR THE DEPARTMENT OF INTERIOR'S MULTICULTURAL DAY. I FEEL SO FORTUNATE TO WORK WITH 70,000 PUBLIC SERVANTS WHO ARE DEDICATED TO OUR WORK EVERY SINGLE DAY. AND WE DO MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE ACROSS THE DIVERSITY OF THINGS THAT WE OVERSEE AND THE MISSIONS THAT WE STAND UP. I ALSO KNOW THAT EVERY DAY, WE AS INDIVIDUAL HUMAN BEINGS APPRECIATE BEING TREATED WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT. SO WE'RE GOING TO BE JOINING AN INTERNATIONAL EFFORT. THIS EFFORT, CALLED THE DIGNITY AND RESPECT CAMPAIGN, STARTED WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH MEDICAL CENTER, WHERE THEY REALIZED THAT SOMETIMES THEIR PATIENTS DIDN'T FEEL LIKE THEY WERE BEING TREATED WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT. PEOPLE WERE HEAD DOWN DOING THEIR JOBS, BUT THEY WEREN'T ACTUALLY LOOKING UP AND LOOKING AT EACH OTHER AND GREETING EACH OTHER AND SMILING. AND SO THEY LAUNCHED THIS REALLY SIMPLE CAMPAIGN-- 30 LITTLE TIPS TO DO THINGS THAT NOT ONLY MAKE EACH OF US FEEL VALUED AS COWORKERS, BUT ALSO HELP OUR CUSTOMERS AND THOSE THAT WE SERVE FEEL VALUED BY THE WAY THAT WE GREET THEM, BY THE WAY THAT WE TREAT THEM. SO I'M DELIGHTED THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF INTERIOR IS JOINING THE UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH MEDICAL CENTER AND A HUNDRED OTHER ORGANIZATIONS IN THIS DIGNITY AND RESPECT CAMPAIGN, AND I KNOW WHEN WE DO THAT, WE WILL MAKE OUR VISITORS TO OUR PUBLIC LANDS, THOSE THAT WE SERVE IN INDIAN COUNTRY, THOSE THAT WE SERVE THROUGH REGULATIONS AND OTHER PARTS OF OUR OPERATIONS FEEL LIKE THEY'VE GOT A PARTNER IN THE DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR WHERE THEY FEEL RESPECTED AND THEY SUPPORT THE WORK WE DO JUST AS WE SUPPORT THE WORK THAT THEY DO. SO PLEASE JOIN ME IN TREATING EVERYONE WITH DIGNITY AND RESPECT, BEING NICE TO EACH OTHER, SAYING HI, GREETING EACH OTHER IN THE HALLWAY, AND LET'S CREATE A GREAT PLACE FOR PEOPLE TO WORK AT INTERIOR AND THE PUBLIC LANDS THAT PEOPLE COME AND VISIT. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
