Today, Acting Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt announced that through continued implementation of Secretarial Order 3362, “Improving Habitat Quality in Western Big-Game Winter Range and Migration Corridors” $1.5 million in private land habitat projects were approved. The funding and technical support is provided by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Partners for Fish and Wildlife program.

The Bureau of Land Management has finalized the purchase of more than four miles of land along the Madison River for public use. The 307.57-acre purchase was completed using funding from the Land and Water Conservation Fund and lies 23 miles south of Ennis, Montana.

The U.S. Department of the Interior announced today the Bureau of Land Management’s approval of two historic mining projects in Utah – the $12.3 million Alton Coal Tract coal lease in Kane County, Utah, and two coal lease modification proposals for the SUFCO Mine in Sevier County, which will extend the life of the existing mine by up to five years.

BOEM will offer 78 million acres for a region-wide lease sale scheduled for March 2019. The sale would include all available unleased areas in federal waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

The Department of the Interior, through its various bureaus and agencies, is responsible for the permitting of communications sites and transmission lines on nearly 500 million acres of federal lands. 

In an effort to improve the habitat for Greater-Sage Grouse in the West, the U.S. Department of the Interior today issued a Record of Decision for the treatment of 617,000 acres of land in Owyhee County, Idaho.

Bureau of Land Management (BLM) state offices generated $1.1 billion from oil and gas lease sales in calendar year 2018.
