Indian Trust Property Valuation Division

Areas of Responsibility

AVSO provides appraisals, appraisal reviews, and appraisal consulting of real property interests on trust and restricted lands, supporting the Secretary of the Interior's trust responsibilities for Tribal and individual Indian beneficiary's trust assets.

The request for appraisal services determines the market value for various real estate transactions and provides beneficiaries with information about their trust asset. The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) as well as contract or compact Tribes operating the real estate services program request appraisals in support of the following types of common real estate transactions:
  • Sales
  • Agriculture leases
  • Business leases
  • Rights-of-way
  • Land exchanges
  • Acquisitions
  • Trespass
  • Other types of real estate transactions

AVSO has regional offices  aligned with the 12 BIA Regions throughout Indian Country. In each regional office is a Regional Supervisory Appraiser who is responsible for assigning and managing appraisal assignments as well as providing technical assistance as needed to the BIA and Tribes.
