Federal Subsistence Board Announces Joint 2024 Subsistence Regional Advisory Councils Meeting

The Federal Subsistence Management Program will hold a joint meeting of all 10 Federal Subsistence Regional Advisory Councils on March 5-8, 2024, at the Dena’ina Civic and Convention Center in Anchorage.  The meeting will include a joint session of all Councils, training for all Council members, an individual regional meeting for each Council, and other breakout sessions on various topics of interest to subsistence users. The sessions will commence daily at 8:00 a.m.

The full day joint session will be held on Tuesday, March 5.  The Council member all day training will take place on Wednesday, March 6, and will include sessions on Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act Title VIII, the Federal regulatory process, Council members’ roles and responsibilities, Robert’s Rules of Order, Customary and traditional use determinations and Section 804 prioritization, delegation of authority, National Park Service Subsistence Resource Commissions, and Tribal engagement.  Thursday and Friday, March 7-8 will be a mix of concurrent individual Council meetings, seminars, panels, discussions, roundtables, and talking circles on such topics as Gulf of Alaska salmon, Bering Sea salmon, the Western Arctic Caribou Herd, the status of caribou statewide, Dall sheep, food security and climate change, and co-stewardship.

The meeting is free and open to the public, with participation in person or by teleconference. Teleconference will be available for all sessions. A schedule, call-in and other information regarding the meeting can be found online at www.doi.gov/subsistence/regions/2024-all-council-meeting.
