ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Office of Subsistence Management published a final rule codifying the Federal subsistence regulation amendments made by the Federal Subsistence Board in April 2026 (91 FR 67482). The rule primarily amends regulations for the take of wildlife for the 2026-2028 regulatory period.

This final rule also revises the general regulations on subsistence taking of fish and wildlife, customary and traditional use determinations, and addresses a deferred proposal regarding eulachon harvest in District 1 from the last fish cycle and a deferred proposal regarding brown bear hide sales from the last wildlife cycle. This final rule also makes administrative corrections to the regulations and corrects typographical errors discovered since the last rulemaking.

The Board published a proposed rule on January 21, 2025 (90 FR 6922) to amend the federal subsistence wildlife regulations. Publication of the proposed rule opened a public comment period and an opportunity to submit proposals to change the regulations. The final rule reflects the Board’s review and consideration of recommendations and comments from the 10 Federal Subsistence Regional Advisory Councils, Tribal and Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act corporation consultations, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, and the public.

This rule is effective immediately. The summary booklet of 2026-2028 federal wildlife regulations is published on the program website at www.doi.gov/subsistence/wildlife and printed copies will soon be available at your land management office.
