MOOSE PASS, AlaskaSeward District Ranger Ruth D’Amico, under authority delegated by the Federal Subsistence Board, is restricting the Unit 7 federal subsistence caribou registration hunt to the harvest of bulls only. The restriction will be effective from 12:01 a.m. on Monday August 10, to 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2026 unless rescinded by a subsequent federal special action. Based on aerial surveys conducted by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, the Kenai Mountains Caribou Herd has suffered a significant decline. The State drawing hunt has also been restricted to bulls only. After a public hearing is held (date to be determined), this action may be extended through the end of the season, December 31, 2026.

A map and description of the closed areas are available from the Seward Ranger District.
