YAKUTAT, Alaska – The 2026 Federal subsistence moose season is closing for the portion of Unit 5A west of the Dangerous River, except the Nunatak Bench, effective October 17, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game issued a closure for the State season.

The quota for the 2026 moose season in Unit 5A is 30 bulls west of the Dangerous River and 30 bulls east of the Dangerous River. This closure is necessary to ensure that the harvest quota is not exceeded. Hunters are reminded that the remainder of Unit 5A east of the Dangerous River will remain open for moose hunting through November 15, 2026, or until 30 bulls have been harvested in that area.

The USDA Forest Service Yakutat District Ranger is taking this special action under authority delegated by the Federal Subsistence Board. For additional information, contact Yakutat District Ranger Nate Catterson at (907) 784-3359 or Wildlife or Subsistence Biologist Susan Oehlers at
