RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA: The Sioux Indian Museum, administered by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Indian Arts and Crafts Board, announces the opening of a new exhibit, In the Anemoia, featuring Sheldon Starr.

Sheldon Starr is an enrolled member of the Oglala Lakota Nation. He grew up in the town of Oglala on the Pine Ridge Reservation. As a teenager, he was passionate about music, art, cars, and color. A natural progression took him to the Oglala Lakota College where he earned a degree in Graphic Arts in 2020. However, Sheldon does not limit himself to digital art; he continues to explore and involve himself with all fine art forms.

Sheldon enjoys combining traditional Lakota geometric designs and American Pop Culture themes and favors the colorful period of the 1980s to 2000.

Sheldon has a deep reverence for his traditional culture, particularly Lakota art and language, and considers his ancestors to be his greatest inspiration.

Sheldon has exhibited in western South Dakota art shows and in the Minneapolis area.

In the Anemoia will be exhibited from July 10 to November 16, 2026.

The Sioux Indian Museum is located in The Journey Museum, 222 New York Street, Rapid City, South Dakota, 57701.  For admission fees and hours of operation please visit https://www.doi.gov/iacb/our-museums/sioux or call (605) 394-6923.
