Training

FEMA requires personnel working at a Joint Field Officer, Regional Response Center, and National Response Center to have the following training:

  • IS 100 (Introduction to Incident Command)
  • IS 200 (ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents)
  • IS 700 (National Incident Management System, An Introduction)
  • IS 800 (National Response Framework, An Introduction) 
  • IS 811 (Emergency Support Functions (ESF) #11 - Agriculture and Natural Resources Annex)

Personnel assisting or serving as FEMA Environmental/Historic Preservation specialists should also have the following training:

  • IS 253 (Coordinating Environmental and Historic Preservation Compliance)

FEMA requires personnel working at the National Response Coordination Center to have the following training:

  • Desk Officer Training (Offered through USDA APHIS)
  • Homeland Security Information Network Training

Optional Training:

  • IS 300 & IS 400 (Classroom led courses)
  • Mission Assignment for Managers 
  • Wildland Fire

These independent study courses are available online .

During a response, the incident command may require additional training.
