Meeting Advisory: Federal Subsistence Board to consider Wildlife Special Action Requests WSA26-01, WSA26-02, and WSA26-03 (Western Arctic Caribou)

ANCHORAGE, Alaska  The Federal Subsistence Board (Board) will meet from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. on June 3, 2026, via teleconference, to consider three Wildlife Special Action Requests pertaining to the Western Arctic Caribou Herd (WACH). 

WSA26-01 requests reduction of the annual harvest limit for caribou to four, only one of which may be a cow, in Units 22, 23, and the southwestern portion of 26A (26A SW) for the 2026/27 regulatory year. WSA26-02 requests closure of Federal public lands in Unit 22 to caribou hunting by non-federally qualified users for the 2026–2028 regulatory cycle. WSA26-03 requests closure of Federal public lands in Unit 26A SW to caribou hunting by non-federally qualified users for the 2026–2028 regulatory cycle. The requests can be viewed at www.doi.gov/subsistence/pending-special-actions.

Comments received during an April 9 public hearing on these requests were summarized for the Board’s consideration.
