Subsistence Drawing Hunt Application Period Opened for Units 7 & 15

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Chugach National Forest Seward District Ranger and the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Manager, under authority of the Federal Subsistence Board, announce the open application period for federal subsistence drawing hunts on federal lands on the Kenai Peninsula in Units 7 and 15. Federally qualified residents from the authorized communities established for each hunt are eligible to apply. The application deadline is Friday, April 17, at 4 p.m. Late applications will not be accepted. Drawing winners will be contacted beginning April 21.

For the 2026 season, the following permits will be available:

Unit 15 (Goat and Caribou: Open to federally qualified residents of Cooper Landing, Hope, Moose Pass, Nanwalek, Ninilchik, Port Graham, and Seldovia residents; Sheep: Open to Ninilchik and Cooper Landing residents)

  • Four mountain goat permits will be available for hunt areas DG356 (Indian Creek one permit), DG357 (Tustumena Glacier one permit), and DG358 (Fox River two permits). Winners will select a subunit in the order they are drawn.

  • Two caribou permits will be drawn for the Killey River Caribou Herd.

  • One sheep permit for Unit 15 will be drawn.

Unit 7 (Goat: Open to Chenega, Cooper Landing, Hope, Moose Pass, Nanwalek, Ninilchik, Port Graham, Seldovia, and Tatitlek residents; Sheep: Open to Cooper Landing and Moose Pass residents)

  • Three mountain goat permits will be available, one for each hunt area DG338 (Crescent Lake), DG334 (Mills Creek), and DG342 (Lost Lake). Winners will select a subunit in the order they are drawn.
  • One sheep permit for Unit 7 will be drawn.
