Juried Youth Art Competition and Exhibition

The Indian Arts and Crafts Board (IACB) will host a juried art competition and exhibition for Indian youth. 

Competitions and Exhibitions will be held at the following locations:

  • Sioux Indian Museum, 222 New York St., Rapid City, South Dakota
  • Southern Plains Indian Museum, 801 E Central Blvd., Anadarko, Oklahoma
  • Museum of the Plains Indian, 19 Museum Loop Rd., Browning, Montana  

The competition will be open to enrolled members of federally recognized tribes between the ages of 12 and 18.  Proof of the youth’s enrollment in a federally recognized tribe and written permission of a parent or guardian will be required.

The competition will provide Indian youth with a realistic juried art show experience; encourage the development and expansion of their skills in production and marketing; and enhance youth interest in culture, history, and the possibility of an artistic career.  All submissions of work will be judged by an independent panel of jurors.  Awards will be distributed in the amount of $250 for first place, $150 for second place, and $100 for third place. 

All artwork must be submitted by April 20, 2018.  Winners will be announced on April 27, 2018.    

An exhibition of selected works will be displayed at the participating museums from April 27 to May 25, 2018.

    Florida Man Sentenced for Misrepresenting Indian Produced Goods

    MADISON, WIS. – Chadwick M. Elgersma, United States Attorney for the Western District of Wisconsin, announced that Jose Farinango Muenala, 47, Casselberry, Florida, pleaded guilty on January 28, 2026, to misrepresenting Indian produced goods. Following the guilty plea, Farinango Muenala was sentenced by U.S. District Judge William M. Conley to 3 years of probation and a $25,000 fine.

    California Man Sentenced for Half Million Dollar Charles Loloma Jewelry Fraud Scheme

    ALBUQUERQUE – After posing for years as a source of rare Native American art, a California man was sentenced to 37 months in prison and ordered to pay $134,443.60 in restitution for running a counterfeit jewelry operation that exploited the reputation of famed Hopi artist Charles Loloma and siphoned roughly five hundred thousand dollars from collectors nationwide.
