Federal employee asking if she can give gifts in the workplace

The Departmental Ethics Office (DEO) just released a new animated video, Gifts in the Federal Workplace.  This short video is the latest addition to the Department of the Interior (DOI) Ethics App’s Video Library. The video can also be found on OneINTERIOR and the DOI’s YouTube channel.

Gift giving in the workplace is a common source of uncertainty and anxiety among employees who want to do the right thing but are sometimes unsure of what the ethics rules are when it comes to gift giving in the workplace.  This video discusses the ethics restrictions applicable to gifts exchanged between Federal employees, including the circumstances under which it is or is not appropriate to give a gift to a supervisor or other official superior.  It also provides best practices on when and how employees may seek contributions for a gift from other employees and points out that it is inappropriate to solicit contributions for a gift from contractors.

The DEO encourages you to reach out to a DEO ethics official with questions you may have or to discuss your specific situation.
