2018 Yukon River Fall Salmon Fishery News Release # 16 - District 2 Commercial Period 5 and Subsistence Schedule

District 2 Commercial Fishing:

Commercial fishing will be open for one period in District 2, from 12:00 noon until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 1. This will be a 6-hour commercial fishing period with gillnets restricted to 6-inch or smaller mesh size. The sale of Chinook salmon is prohibited. Chinook salmon retained from commercial gillnet gear must be recorded on a fish ticket as retained but not sold. Commercial fishermen need to confirm their buyer prior to fishing.

District 2 Subsistence Salmon Fishing Schedule:

Subsistence salmon fishing in District 2 is open during the fall season 7 days per week, 24 hours per day with gillnets restricted to a maximum mesh size of 7.5 inches, except for 12 hours before, during, and 12 hours after commercial fishing periods. Subsistence salmon fishing will close at 12:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 1, and reopen at 6:00 a.m. Thursday, August 2. Fishermen may use 4-inch or smaller mesh size gillnets to target non-salmon species during subsistence salmon closures.

Preliminary reports from the District 2 commercial opening on July 29 indicate a harvest of 696 fall chum salmon from 22 permit holders. The preliminary cumulative commercial harvest for District 2 through July 29 is 15,983 fall chum salmon.
