A rugged, whitewater river flowing northward through deep canyons, the New River is among the oldest rivers on the continent. New River Gorge National River in West Virginia encompasses over 70,000 acres of land along the New River, is rich in cultural and natural history, and offers an abundance of scenic and recreational opportunities.
Strong partnerships form the cornerstone of our work at the U.S. Department of the Interior and our mission. Our bureaus have long-standing histories of collaborating with communities and others on projects that build upon common goals and interests in caring for our nation's resources.

These partners are committed to working closely with program staff and area experts on a variety of projects. Interior, we offer a wealth of opportunities for citizen participation by fostering collaborations among researchers, industry, citizens and government to address real-world challenges.
