On behalf of U.S. Department of the Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, myself, and and my staff in the Office of Insular Affairs, I extend my deepest condolences to the family and the people of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands on the passing of Pedro “Teno” Pangelinan Tenorio.  He passed away on Monday, May 21, 2018 in the Northern Mariana Islands.

Governor Tenorio was no stranger to the Federal family. His legacy is his many years of public service involving both the public and private sectors and his conviction to advance the interests of the people.  He has represented the people of the Northern Mariana Islands on many occasions, testifying before the U.S. Congress, meeting with various administration officials, and seeking support from numerous Federal agencies in his quest to improve the lives of his people and protect his islands.  His humility whilst carrying out his duties marked his character as a true statesman.  His passing will be felt by the people of the Commonwealth as well as by the many friends and acquaintances whom he met during his many visits to Washington, D.C. and throughout the United States.

May God bless and comfort the family of the late Pedro “Teno” Pangelinan Tenorio and the people of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands during this time of mourning.
