ANCHORAGE, Alaska – The Federal Subsistence Board (Board) approved Emergency Wildlife Special Action Request WSA26-14, establishing a late fall season for moose in Unit 7 remainder from October 20 – November 10.

Wildlife Special Action Request WSA26-14, submitted by the Chugach National Forest, asked the Board to establish an October 20–November 10 moose season in Unit 7 remainder. This action is consistent with the Board’s adoption of Wildlife Proposal WP26-17 in April 2026, which established the same season. The Board stated approving this request will provide increased subsistence opportunity to harvest moose when conditions improve and competition is lessened. WSA26-14 aims to implement the Board's adoption of WP26-17 until the currently delayed new federal subsistence wildlife regulations are published.

The Board’s action occurred via email, consistent with the time sensitivity of the request and Board policy. Also consistent with Board policy, results of this email vote will be available on the program’s website in the near future. This Special Action implements an April 2026 Board action in time for the moose season, due to a delay in final rule publication in the Federal Register.
