Federal Subsistence Regulations Published in the Federal Register

For Immediate Release:
July 21, 2025

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — The Office of Subsistence Management published a final rule codifying the Federal subsistence regulation amendments made by the Federal Subsistence Board (Board) in February 2025 (90 FR 34152). The rule primarily amends Federal regulations for the take of fish and shellfish for the 2025-2027 regulatory period. This rule also removes the Ketchikan Area from the list of nonrural areas, updates the regulations for the subsistence taking of caribou in Units 11, 12 and 13, and corrects an error from a recent final rule regarding the take of wolf and wolverine in Unit 17.

The Board published a proposed rule on March 22, 2024 (89 FR 20380) to amend the Federal subsistence fish and shellfish regulations. Publication of the proposed rule opened a public comment period and an opportunity to submit proposals to change the regulations. The final rule reflects the Board’s review and consideration of recommendations and comments from the 10 Federal Subsistence Regional Advisory Councils, Tribal and ANCSA corporation consultations, the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, and the public.

This rule is effective immediately. The summary booklet of 2025-2027 Federal fish and shellfish regulations is published on the program website and will soon be available at your land management office.
