U.S. Secretary Bernhardt’s Statement on President Trump’s Signing of FY 2020 Government Funding Bills

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt released the following statement after President Trump signed into public law H.R. 1865, the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2020, and H.R. 1158, the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2020.

“By signing HR 1158, President Trump has ensured we continue to develop our resources responsibly, complete the BLM relocation, and meet our stewardship goals and many other objectives,” said Secretary Bernhardt. 

H.R. 1865, the Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2020 includes funding for the following Department of the Interior priorities:

  • BLM Relocation: Contains the necessary resources for the Department of the Interior to conclude its effort to relocate the Bureau of Land Management’s headquarters west to Grand Junction, Colorado, as well as reassign other positions to other western states.
  • Wildland Fire Management: $5.55 billion for Wildland Fire Management, including $2.25 billion in cap-adjusted fire suppression funding.
  • Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women: $6.5 million for efforts focused on the resolution of unsolved missing and murdered cases in Indian country.
  • Wild Horse and Burro Management: $101.6 million for the Wild Horse and Burro Management program, a $21.0 million increase above the fiscal year 2019 enacted level.
  • NPS Construction: $389.3 million for National Park Service construction.
  • Protecting the Great Lakes: $25 million to keep Asian Carp out of the Great Lakes and adjacent waters, in order to help prevent the ecological damage and harm to water-related recreation in the region, which would result from the spread of these invasive fish.
  • PILT: Full funding for the Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILT) program.
  • SRS: Two fiscal years of funding for the Secure Rural Schools (SRS) program.
  • Sage-grouse: $72 million for sage-grouse conservation, including provisions that prevent a listing of the greater sage-grouse and the Columbia basin distinct population segment as an endangered species.
  • Rural water projects: $117 million for rural water projects.
