WASHINGTON, DC – Department of the Interior spokeswoman Kendra Barkoff released the following statement today regarding Secretary Salazar's visit to Nevada this weekend:

“Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar accepted Majority Leader Harry Reid's invitation to travel to Las Vegas this Saturday, May 2, 2009 to announce Bureau of Land Management (BLM) funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Given the significance of BLM's land management responsibilities in the state and the leadership Senator Reid provided in directing important job-creating investments to Nevada, Secretary Salazar thought it only fitting the announcement should be made in the home state of his close personal friend.”
