RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA:

The Sioux Indian Museum is featuring an exhibition of the work of local artist Roger Broer, Oglala Lakota.  During the course of his career, he has won several awards in the Black Hills area, at Santa Fe Indian Art Market and throughout the country.   The exhibition will run October 1 through December 30, 2024.

The Sioux Indian Museum first purchased some of Broer’s jewelry and pottery for its collections in the 1970s. A decade later, the museum purchased two of his mixed media pieces.  Over the decades, Roger perfected his own unique style of monotypes.  He describes his development as a modified monotype method to suit his needs working contrary to the traditional process.  Roger uses oil paint, working in reverse on plexi-glass with different tools.  Six of these monotypes are on display aside his early pieces for visitors to compare what is the same and what is different from 1983 to 2024.
