David Lawrence, police chief of the Bureau of Indian Affairson the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation, has been honored by the International Association of Chiefs of Police as it 2013 Indian Country Officer of the Year. The award recognizes police officers who have demonstrated exceptional valor in service to the people of Indian Country. In recognizing Lawrence, the IACP noted his 18 years of service, most of which was spent working complex cases on the Standing Rock Sioux Indian Reservation in North and South Dakota.
