Subject: National American Indian Heritage Month –November 1-30, 2011

The Department of the Interior proudly joins the Nation in celebrating National American Indian Heritage Month.

Since 1976, Presidents of the United States have proclaimed recognition for Native Americans. The President's Proclamation is being posted on oneINTERIOR as soon as it is released. During National American Indian Heritage Month, Interior is proud to celebrate the rich cultural traditions and proud ancestry of American Indians and Alaskan Natives and recognize the vital contributions these groups have made to the strength and diversity of our society.

A Departmental exhibit will be on display on the 4th floor of the Main Interior Building near the 4300 Wing throughout the month of November showcasing authentic pieces of American Indian arts and crafts and informational literature.

Bureaus and Offices are encouraged to conduct activities locally and in the field in observance of National American Indian Heritage Month. Managers, supervisors, and employees are encouraged to participate.
