Shannon L. Goessling is the Field Special Assistant for the South Atlantic-Gulf Region. She is responsible for regional coordination among Interior's bureaus and offices in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and the U.S. Virgin Islands. In this capacity, Goessling serves as the chairperson of the Regional Executive Committee comprised of fellow regional executives within Interior. She previously served as the Regional Facilitator for the South Atlantic-Gulf Region. 

Goessling has extensive federal and state court litigation and administrative challenge management experience, demonstrating vision, creativity, internal acumen, external awareness and success. She has significant business strategy, administration, and financial and personnel management knowledge. She is highly adept at negotiation, consensus and coalition building, public speaking and media relations. 

Goessling contemporaneously serves as the Regional Solicitor for the South Atlantic-Gulf and Mississippi Basin regions, representing and acting for the Solicitor as the chief legal officer for the Department’s bureaus in the South Atlantic-Gulf Region states noted above and in Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi and Missouri in the Mississippi Basin Region.

Goessling manages the work of the professional and support staff in the regions, including determining fiscal and personnel requirements; implementing new programs and projects; and fostering working relationships with Department bureaus and offices, State, local and Tribal governments, and officials of other federal agencies. The Solicitor's Regional Office is in Atlanta and the Field Office is in Knoxville, Tennessee. 

Goessling holds a B.A. degree in Political Science from Rollins College and a J.D. degree from Emory University School of Law.
