The moose population in Unit 22A remains at relatively low density. While adjacent hunt areas support higher moose densities, it is unclear how dispersal of moose from neighboring units is contributing to the growth of the Unit 22A remainder population. It is also unclear what effect rescinding the Federal public lands closure would have on the moose population or on local subsistence users. The Board recognizes that continued monitoring of the moose population dynamics in this area is prudent and that any new population information should be reviewed to ensure that the Federal lands closure remains necessary and justified.
