In addition to economic development, education and public safety programs, we also administer on behalf of tribal governments, or fund their administration of, Indian Affairs programs that assist them in the management of their trust lands and natural, mineral and energy resources; in building and maintaining housing for tribal members; in providing emergency assistance and disaster relief, general assistance and Indian child welfare services; in operating and repairing their transportation, water, energy and irrigation infrastructure (including high hazard dams); in administering agricultural and forestry programs; in operating corrections facilities, tribal courts and juvenile justice programs; in implementing land and water claims settlements; and in supporting tribal government operations, all of which support Indian self-determination and seek to improve the quality of life in tribal communities.
