Federal Subsistence Board to hold teleconference on Wildlife Temporary Special Action Requests WSA19-07 (Mulchatna Caribou Herd) and WSA19-08 (Unit 13E Ptarmigan)

The Federal Subsistence Board (Board) will hold a teleconference on November 5, 2019, beginning at 1:30 p.m., to take action on Temporary Wildlife Special Action Requests WSA19-07 and WSA19-08.

Temporary Special Action Request WSA19-07, submitted by Togiak National Wildlife Refuge and Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge, requests that the harvest limit for Mulchatna caribou be decreased from two caribou to one caribou in all or portions of Units 9A, 9B, 9C, 17A, 17B, 17C, 18, 19A, and 19B for the 2019/20 regulatory year. A public hearing to solicit testimony on WSA19-07 was conducted on October 1, 2019 in Bethel and October 3, 2019 in Dillingham. Tribal and ANCSA Corporation consultations were held on September 24, 2019 in Anchorage via teleconference.

Temporary Special Action Request WSA19-08, submitted by the Denali National Park Subsistence Resource Commission, requests that the Board change the harvest limit for ptarmigan from 20 per day, 40 in possession, to 10 per day, 20 in possession, and shorten the season from Aug. 10 – Mar. 31 to Aug. 10 – Feb. 15 in Unit 13E for the 2019/20 regulatory year. A public hearing to solicit testimony on
WSA19-08 was conducted on September 25, 2019 in Cantwell.
