2020 Yukon River Salmon Summer Fishery Announcement #23 District 1 Commercial and Subsistence Fishing Schedule

 Districts Affected: Lower Yukon Area

The previously announced commercial period in District 1 is being extended. All Chinook salmon must be released alive during commercial openings with dip nets and beach seines.

The processor has notified the department that for the safety of the commercial fishing fleet and surrounding communities, they will not be buying salmon in District 2 for the remainder of summer season to allow for time to thoroughly test for COVID-19 and reduce the spread of infection.

Commercial fishing District 1:

The previously announced 24-hour commercial fishing period starting 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 1 with dip nets and beach seines will be extended 18 more hours. Commercial fishing with dip nets and beach seines will be open from:

8 p.m. Wednesday, July 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, July 3 (a 42-hour period)

Fishermen must confirm they have a buyer and should check tender locations prior to fishing. Crewmembers must have a current crewmember license. The phone number to reach CFEC is: 907-789-6150. CFEC permits can be renewed online at: www.cfec.state.ak.us/Leon/#leon

Subsistence Management Actions

District 1 and the North Coastal Area (from 62 degrees North latitude north to Point Romanof, including the Black River, and communities of Emmonak, Nunam Iqua, Alakanuk, and Kotlik):

Subsistence fishing will open with 6-inch or smaller mesh gillnets on a schedule of two 18-hour periods per week from:

2 p.m. Fridays to 8 a.m. Saturdays

2 p.m. Tuesdays to 8 a.m. Wednesdays
