2018 Yukon River Summer Salmon Fishery News Release # 7 Districts 1 and 2 Commercial Fishing Schedule

Districts Affected: Lower Yukon Area

Commercial summer chum salmon fishing with selective gear (dip nets and beach seines) is beginning in Districts 1 and 2. Catches of summer chum salmon may be low until the run builds in the lower river. All Chinook salmon caught in dip net and beach seine gear must be released alive immediately and recorded on a fish ticket. Fishermen must confirm they have a buyer prior to fishing.

Management Actions

District 1 (including Black River) Commercial:

Effective 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, commercial fishing will be open for three 12-hour periods with dip nets and beach seines:

  • 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, to 2 a.m. Sunday, June 10
  • 2 p.m. Sunday, June 10, to 2 a.m. Monday, June 11
  • 2 p.m. Monday, June 11, to 2 a.m. Tuesday, June 12

All Chinook salmon must be released alive immediately and recorded on a fish ticket.

District 2 Commercial:

Effective 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, commercial fishing will be open for two 12-hour periods with dip nets and beach seines:

  • 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 12, to 2 a.m. Wednesday, June 13
  • 2 p.m. Wednesday June 13, to 2 a.m. Thursday, June 14

All Chinook salmon must be released alive immediately and recorded on a fish ticket.

General Reminders for Commercial Gear:

Dip net mesh size is restricted to 4.5-inch or smaller.

Beach seines must be set from the beach and hauled to the beach. Beach seine gear may not exceed 150 fathoms in length, 100 meshes in depth, and 4-inches stretched measure. Beach seines may not be constructed of monofilament webbing.

District 1 (including Black River and North Coastal District) Subsistence:

Subsistence fishing is on a reduced regulatory schedule of two 18-hour periods per week, from 2 p.m. Fridays until 8 a.m. Saturdays, and 2 p.m. Tuesdays until 8 a.m. Wednesdays with 7.5-inch or smaller mesh gillnets. Dip nets are not allowed during subsistence gillnet openings.

District 2 Subsistence:

Subsistence fishing is on a reduced regulatory schedule of two 18-hour periods per week, from 2 p.m. Mondays until 8 a.m. Tuesdays, and from 2 p.m. Thursdays until 8 a.m. Fridays with 7.5-inch or smaller mesh gillnets. Dip nets are not allowed during subsistence gillnet openings.
