2018 Yukon River Salmon Fishery News Release # 40 - District 1 Subsistence and Commercial Fishing Schedules

Districts Affected: Lower Yukon Area

As of July 5, over 90% of the Chinook salmon run has passed through Districts 1 and 2, and large numbers of summer chum are present. Subsistence gillnet restrictions are being relaxed. Commercial gillnet openings for 6-inch or smaller mesh gear will occur between subsistence periods.

Subsistence Management Actions:

District 1 (including the Black River and North Coastal District):

As previously announced, subsistence fishing is open with 6-inch or smaller mesh gillnets effective 2 p.m. Friday, July 6 and will close 8 a.m. Saturday, July 7.

Effective 6 a.m. Sunday, July 8, subsistence fishing will be open for 9 hours each day with 7.5-inch or smaller mesh gillnets from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. until further notice.

Subsistence fishing is closed three hours before, during and after commercial periods.  

Commercial Management Actions:

District 1 (including the Black River and North Coastal District):

Effective 6 p.m. Saturday July 7, Commercial fishing will be open with 6-inch or smaller mesh gillnets for 9 hours each day from 6 p.m. each day until 3 a.m. the following day.

All Chinook salmon kept for personal use must be recorded on a fish ticket.
