Description

On today's 157th anniversary of the Homestead Act, meet up with Interior Museum registrar Jason Jurgena for a Museum Moment during your lunch break. In this 20-minute presentation, you'll visit John Steuart Curry's pair of New Deal-era murals relating to the work of the General Land Office responsible for adminstering the Act. Jason will share the story behind these works of art, what they can tell us about America's cultural landscape, and the ongoing efforts of making homestead records easily accessible for online research.

This mini-tour departs from the Museum's gallery promptly at 12:30 p.m. Museum Moments are a new series of brief, 20-minute informal presentations in which you can count on hearing, visiting, learning, or seeing something fascinating related to the Department of the Interior's history. It might be a special artifact, a tie-in with a historical event, a mini-tour, a new addition to the museum's collection, or even a behind-the-scenes peek at a current museum project.
