On May 12, 2014, the National Association of Police Organizations presented its 2014 TOP COPS® awards in a ceremony at the White House. This year, 53 officers, detectives, patrolmen, special agents, and troopers were honored by President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and other top officials.

Among those receiving NAPO's 2014 TOP COPS® awards were U.S. Park Police Officers Carl Hiott and Andrew Wong for their acts of courage during the Navy Yard shooting on Sept. 16, 2013.

NAPO is a coalition of police units and associations from across the United States. Founded in 1978, NAPO is the strongest unified voice supporting law enforcement officers in the United States. Since NAPO launched the awards program in 1994, the TOP COPS Awards® have paid tribute to outstanding law enforcement officers across the country for actions above and beyond the call of duty. TOP COPS® awardees are nominated by their fellow officers for outstanding service during the preceding calendar year.

While this awards ceremony takes place during National Police Week, a time to reflect and remember our fallen heroes, it is also a time to pay tribute to those who make selfless sacrifices to protect the community and each other.
