DOINews: Deputy Assistant Secretary Andrew Jackson Departs from Department of the Interior

On March 27, 2014, employees bid farewell to Department of the Interior's Deputy Assistant Secretary of Technology, Information and Business Services, Andrew Jackson. Jackson left the Department of the Interior to embark on a new chapter as President Obama's choice for Assistant Secretary for Management at the Department of Education.

In a ceremony at the Bison Bistro, the renovated cafeteria at DOI's Main Interior Building, in Washington, D.C., Interior employees from several offices and bureaus celebrated Jackson's accomplishments over the last five years. During the event, Joe Ward, Director of the Interior Business Center, highlighted DAS Jackson's dedication to public service, “Andrew is one of the smartest guys I know with an incredible commitment to serving the Department and our nation. He is well suited for his new position at the Education Department and I wish him nothing but the best!”


Under Jackson's leadership, Interior launched several innovative efforts, to include the IT Transformation initiative, providing DOI employees with 21st century IT and supporting good government practices by reducing waste, cutting costs and integrating services. DAS Jackson also led significant renovation projects and sustainability efforts related to DOI's Main Interior Building modernization, such as the complete makeover of the cafeteria (Bison Bistro), the opening of a new childcare center and the establishment of an organic garden.
