Secretary Salazar: I'm Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar and I want to thank all of you who sent us your questions on-line.
It's a privilege to be able to be here today as your secretary of the Interior answering the questions you have across America.
Narrator: Everett from Punta Gorda wants to know "What is Interior doing to protect the Everglades?"
Secretary Salazar: The Everglades are a world heritage center for the entire world and for the United States.
The last two years we have put a tremendous amount of energy into restoring what we call "the River of Grass." And that is an effort to try and get the waters in the Everglades to flow back into their natural channels so that the River of Grass is there in perpetuity.
The abundance of wildlife and recreational opportunities in the Everglades has made it the world heritage center that it deserves to be and we are committed to making sure that we do everything we can to restore the River of Grass not only for the people of Florida, but for the people of the United States and the people of the world.
Narrator: Karrie from Albuquerque wants to know "How will the Cobell settlement effect the Nation to Nation relationship with Indian Country?"
Secretary Salazar: Cobell now having been resolved will now allow us to establish a kind of government to government relationship that will allow us to be more constructive partners with Indian Nations across the country.
That means that we'll be able to move forward and work on issues relating to law and order, and public safety, economic development and addressing the health and educational issues in Indian Country.
It's a responsibility we have in the Department of the Interior in our trust responsibilities on behalf of the Nation for the Nation's Native Americans and this a historic settlement that will help us make sure that we are being that we are fulfilling that trust relationship with Native Americans.
