Zinke in Montana

On Thursday, August 24, Secretary of the Interior Ryan Zinke, Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue, and other top wildfire officials traveled to Montana to meet with the incident command team tasked with overseeing the Lolo Peaks wildfire. The wildfire had already proven deadly, taking the life of a firefighter earlier in the month, and it still threatened neighboring towns. The Secretaries, joined by U.S. Senator Steve Daines and U.S. Representative Greg Gianforte, toured the Missoula Northern Rockies Training Center for wildland firefighters and visited the firefighters base camp near Lolo. This fire season, more than 9 million acres have burned across the west. Secretary Zinke has taken proactive measures both to prevent future wildfires and to provide relief to ranchers who lost rangeland.
