A rugged, whitewater river flowing northward through deep canyons, the New River is among the oldest rivers on the continent. New River Gorge National River in West Virginia encompasses over 70,000 acres of land along the New River, is rich in cultural and natural history, and offers an abundance of scenic and recreational opportunities.
The Strategic Sciences Group (SSG) is co-led by the Science Advisor to the National Park Service Director and the U.S. Geological Survey Associate Director for Natural Hazards. In addition, a small staff is assigned responsibility to build, direct, and manage activities. Currently, SSG staff includes a Staff Scientist and an American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Science and Technology Policy Fellow.
