YORKTOWN, Va—Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne will give the keynote address at the 225th anniversary celebration of the Battle of Yorktown on October 19, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. EDT.
Kempthorne’s speech will be part of the four-day celebration from Oct. 19 to Oct 22 commemorating the climatic battle of the America Revolution. Activities include parades, commemorative ceremonies, military demonstrations and re-enactments, concerts and family events.
For security purposes, all media covering the events must be credentialed and are advised to register in advance. Photo identification will be required at check-in on the days of the event.

At the site, media will be required to show current valid federal- or state-issued photo and media identification prior to being issued their event credentials. Journalists who do not register before October 19 can apply for event credentials the day of the event, but should expect delays.
Parking for media, including television trucks, will be available in the Battlefield Park Area (at the corner of Ballard Street and Cook Road) on the event days only, beginning at 8:00 a.m. Due to road closings and space allocations, there is not room to accommodate satellite trucks or other vehicles at the event sites. However, reporters and camera crews are welcome to enter the event areas once they have signed in at the media checkpoint and received their credentials.
