WASHINGTON, D.C. – Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne will address the International Regulators Offshore Safety Conference in Miami, Florida on Wednesday, December 5, 2007.
Secretary Kempthorne will focus on the strong safety record and successes of U.S. offshore energy exploration and the Minerals Management Service (MMS), a bureau of the Department of the Interior that oversees the country’s offshore energy exploration. The conference, hosted by MMS and the International Regulators’ Forum (IRF), will gather together regulators from countries with ongoing and proposed offshore oil and gas operations. The Primary purpose of the conference is to exchange information on “best practices” and experiences, and to discuss optimal strategies for achieving safety and pollution prevention objectives.
