The public and media are invited to join Secretary of the Treasury Henry Paulson, Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne, United States Mint Director Ed Moy and State Treasurer Ron Crane at a ceremony celebrating the Idaho quarter at the Boise Depot in Idaho’s capital city at 2:30 p.m., Friday, August 3. Participation by two cabinet secretaries is a first in the history of the 50 State Quarters Program®. Following the ceremony, the crowd may exchange their paper currency for $10 rolls of newly minted Idaho quarters. Children attending the event will receive a free Idaho quarter.
Because the temperature is expected to be in the 90s, the seating area for the ceremony, which is expected to last 30 minutes, will be tented and fans and water provided.
The peregrine falcon in profile is the prominent image on the Idaho quarter-dollar, the third coin to be released by the United States Mint in 2007 in the phenomenally popular 50 State Quarters® Program. The peregrine falcon, one of the fastest birds in the world, was once on the endangered species list, but can now be found throughout Idaho and the United States because of conservation efforts.
Next to the peregrine falcon profile is a map of the state and the state motto, "Esto Perpetua" (May it Ever Be) and above the raptor are the inscriptions "Idaho" and "1890", representing the year Idaho entered the Union.
