WASHINGTON -- Interior's Assistant Secretary for Land and Minerals Management Rebecca Watson, and Department of Energy's Director of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Richard H. Truly, will hold a media briefing on Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, to discuss the details of a study that identifies and evaluates renewable energy resources on public lands in the West (except Alaska). The briefing will be held at the Department of Energy National Renewable Energy Laboratory, 15013 Denver West Parkway, Golden, Colo., at 10 a.m.
The assessment was undertaken in response to a task developed from the President's National Energy Policy. The Interior Department's Bureau of Land Management and the Energy Department's National Renewable Energy Laboratory formed a partnership in June 2001, to conduct an assessment of renewable energy resources on BLM-managed federal lands in the western United States.
The study focuses on the potential of renewable energy resources on public lands in the western United States. The data for renewable energy resources will be integrated into BLM land use plans.
